Occupational allergens are materials in industries that can also induce allergy related diseases similar to naturally occurred allergens like pollens / mold spores / cats / dogs... Industrial materials can illicit an allergic response or acts as irritants. Major occupational allergens can range from diesel exhausted particles, diisocyanates seen in polyurethane foam makers, plastic molders, spray painters, insulation installers... to fungal, bacterial, and mammalian hydrolytic enzymes, egg powder, latex products, and flours from wheat, rice, rye, barley, mustard seeds, coffee beans, soy beans, and doughs. As seen in environmental allergens and pollens, industrial allergens may cause rhinosinusitis, asthma, and eczema. Severity of symptoms depends on the length of exposure. Although removal from the causative environment is definite treatment, symptoms may persist even after exposure ceases especially with diisocyanates exposures.
